What is the Display Like?
With the Helix 7 fish finders you get a huge 7 inch TFT display. This is a great size and the accuracy and the level of detail on the screen is near photographic in our opinion.
Lake Master Compatible
These are your standard type of mapping cards for all Humminbird units. LakeMaster PLUS (PLUS) maps display satellite imagery and aerial photos of the land surrounding bodies of water, adding depth to what you see on screen in real-time.
AutoChart Live
AutoChart Live is the self-mapping solution to finding uncharted waters. You can map as you drive, and AutoChart will show depth lines showing significant changes in water depths (good fishing spots), vegetation areas, structure such as sand or rocks etc., and bottom hardness. It has 8 hours of recorded storage space on its own unit but even more with an added card that records for days at a time!
Humminbird Baseman
With its built-in sonar capabilities, the Hummingbird Baseman provides you with a clear view of underwater terrain and surrounding points of interest. This will help fish or navigate safely as it tracks buoys, day markers, hazards, marinas and depth contours.
Switchfire Sonar
The SwitchFire Sonar has two settings that can help you see more fish in poor conditions, and both of these are accessible from the menu bar at the upper right corner. The first setting is 80/200 kHz (80kHz for shallow water or 200KHz+ if fishing deep). When this switch is set to “on,” your sonar will display small dots on screen so it looks like a ball of spots rather than one smooth line when an area’s echo isn’t very strong. This gives you a better idea about what each dot means by making them easier to distinguish between targets based on their size.”
What is Mega Side Imaging?
The new Helix 7 has MEGA Side Imaging, but it is a lot smaller than the original model. This means more coverage on both sides of your boat and less cost to you. The mega+ had 100 ft of imaging in its range which gives us big reason that this will be highly demanded by people who own boats or other vessels used for water-based activities such as fishing.
What is Mega Down Imaging?
The new MEGA Down Imaging transducer has clearer images of structure and enhanced separation of fish. The unit looks identical to last year’s model which is a good thing!

Dual Spectrum CHIRP Sonar
The Dual Spectrum CHIRP Sonar that first appeared in the larger Helix G2N units is now available across all models, including the new 7. The ‘low q’ technology means better fish arches and more accurate target separation for a cleaner 2D sonar experience.
Our Verdict
The Helix 7 is significant upgrade from the previous models by Humminbird, as it now includes MEGA Imaging and a low Q CHIRP 2D. If you’ve been holding back due to price concerns, this could be your chance!
With this range of fish finders you get great coverage underwater down to 125 feet below your boat using the Mega Down Imaging. Likewise with Mega Side imaging you can see 125 feet to the side of your boat using MSI technology only from Humminbird. If this type of coverage is important to you when you are out fishing then you should definitely consider this model; for more casual anglers you may want to look at some of the other fish finders available on the market. This is a really capable fish finder and for the money we reckon it is well worth the price tag. If you want to find out more about this fish finder then click the link below to learn more now.
